Several Thousand Years of Solitude

I almost put this bit of news in Paved Paradise, but after reading several articles on it there didn't seem to be a link to global warming.

Just a case of the cards finally falling over.

I did not get a chance to see Arches on my way west in 2004, but I do remember this--between the baked hell that was northern Arizona and the blackened hell that was southern Nevada, I remember a brief red earth heaven in southern Utah, the curve and strength of St George and the national parks surrounding that fine city.

God bless our national parks--whatever shape they're in.
