She passed along the news this week that the surgery that was planned for her mother has been cancelled--the cancer is too far gone and mom is suffering with related infections. Serena isn't feeling much like talking and prefers writing, so...

I'll keep it inspirational, without too much perkiness. What irritated me most about Mom's cancer was "The Chicken Soup For the Soul With Cancer" that everyone insisted I read. Could have used realistic optimism instead.
