Unable to Sleep, Jo Gives Her Mother's Wacky Cake Recipe

This recipe has been doubled to work in a 13 x 9 pan.

2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
6 tablespoons cocoa
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 teaspoons vanilla
12 tablespoons Mazola oil
2 cups water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix first five ingredients together in the 13 x 9 baking pan. When ingredients are well-sifted make three wells. Add vinegar and vanilla to one well, Mazola oil to another well, and water to the last one. Mix all ingredients together gently until blended, and bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.

Note: You can add chocolate chips, M&M's, or nuts to the top halfway through the baking, or frost with cherry pie filling or frosting when cool. Cake is done when surface is firm to the touch.
