Someone searched for "the meaning of the name sarah jo" and wound up on my blog today.

M.K. Shelton joined Facebook today, so stop by and tell him hi.

Merry Christmas to you!

And Merry Christmas to you and yours! I will certainly visit M.K. on line...

Perhaps there I will find out if he found the meaning...here's what I discovered when I looked it up:

Sarah - Princess
Jo - God's Increase

And, my last name, which makes the image pretty complete:

Schlosser - In some translations, "Gatekeeper;" in others, "One who lives in a castle."

I don't think my mother and father put this much thought in my name, but you never can tell...my agnostic brother's name is Michael, which means "Who is God?" in Hebrew...

As far as I know, there's no connection between Shelton and the query that led a search-engine user to the blog. I pay attention to query terms out of habit (a holdover from a year-long project for Google). Sometimes they're amusing or evocative, and occasionally I "answer" in the form of a post. When I saw your name among the terms, I thought it would make you smile. And yes, your name suits you.

Saint Michael, by the way, is the patron saint of police officers.

I will have to tell my brother that today when I see him...you've already scored points with him for living in Columbus and for the Patterson book, so this will be an added compliment...

If I am not mistaken, St. Paul is the patron saint of writers...no?

Thank you for saying that my name fits me...the contributions, however, go to:

My last name obviously comes from my father.

My middle name was my mother's middle name (hence, the reason why I often/mostly go by Jo when I am writing).

My first name was my mother struggling to find a name that she didn't hear a lot...she didn't want to confuse me with anyone else. Finally, just hours before I started to make my entrance, she decided on Sarah. She told my dad and he conceded, although he was hoping for Heidi if I was a girl and Johann if I was a boy (he loves the complete German picture). She insisted on Sarah if I was a girl, Michael if I was a boy. I showed up, and she told the nurse my name for the birth certificate, and the nurse wrinkled her nose. "She's going to hate that name," said the nurse.

"Why?" asked my mother.

"Because it's my name, and I hate it."

I don't hate it, because my mother gave it to me. :)

I, of course, LOVE the name Sarah.

I think of both Michael and Sarah by the stories associated with them in religious traditions rather than the name itself. Sarah laughing when God tells her that she will have a child at 90 is one of my favorite stories. I like that she is that close in the relationship to laugh like that.

Michael as God's "general" and carrying the soul's of the faithful to heaven make him a pretty important story guy too!

I have often had that same question with God about getting older without children...LOL...
